The Book Rack of the Quad Cities Trade Policy
The Book Rack accepts used paperbacks for store credit valued at ¼ of the cover price. Used books are sold for ½ off the cover price, or less, if on our sale rack.
Store credit is accepted for up to 50% of the purchase of one of our used paperbacks. For instance, if you wish to purchase $10 of used books, and have $6 of credit, you may use $5 of your credit toward the purchase and still have $1 credit left to use on your next purchase. In this example, the total cash outlay for this purchase would be $5.35 ($10 - 50% of purchase in credit+ 7% tax ).
Credit can be used toward all used books. Since we already discount new books as much as we can, we do not accept book credits toward those purchases. We typically sell new books for 10-20% off cover price.
Guidelines for what we accept in trade:
We take mass market and trade paperbacks. We love to receive Fiction of all genres as well as Science, Biography, History, Sports and other general interest topics. We do not accept text books or dated material such as travel guides. We may need to decline to give credit for any type of book due to overstock or the condition of the book.
A note on condition: We cannot accept paperbacks without covers. We also cannot take damaged or mildewed books. If you wouldn't loan the book to a friend due to its condition, we probably cannot accept it.
We often receive books we can't accept for credit. You may choose to leave them with us, rather than take them back home. We may place some on our deep discount rack, or make them available to other customers at no charge, but will do our best to donate as many as possible. In the end, some will end up being recycled or thrown out.
